About SetCom

Clear crew communication, even in 100 dB environments

SetCom builds crew communication systems for the high-noise, high-stakes environments that surround sewer cleaning, hydro excavation, and emergency response work. Fifty-plus years of designing headset and intercom platforms for operators and spotters who need to talk while a jetter is running at full pressure or a combination truck's blower is hitting 100+ dB. The core promise is that a spotter's call to stop or move doesn't get lost in the noise, and an operator doesn't have to lift hearing protection to hear it.

The lineup spans wired and wireless headset systems for two-person and four-person crews, full intercom systems that connect everyone on the same piece of equipment, and integrations with two-way radios for crews working across multiple trucks on a single job. Noise-canceling boom microphones, hearing-protection-rated ear cups, and battery life sized for full-shift operation. Brown Equipment Company carries SetCom as a recommended upgrade on combination trucks, hydro excavators, and jetting equipment we sell.

Frequently Asked

SetCom: Common Buyer Questions

Answers to the questions municipal fleets and contractors ask most often before specifying SetCom equipment.

Why not just use two-way radios?
Two-way radios work fine for talking between vehicles. They don't solve the on-equipment communication problem: an operator and a spotter standing 10 feet apart next to a jetter running at full pressure can't hear each other on hand-held radios because the equipment noise drowns out the radio speaker. SetCom headsets put the audio inside hearing-protection ear cups and use noise-canceling microphones, so the conversation stays intelligible even at 100+ dB. Most departments end up running both: SetCom on-equipment, two-way radios across vehicles.
Is there a wireless option?
Yes. SetCom offers both wired and wireless headset configurations. Wireless gives the spotter freedom to move around the equipment without a tether, which matters on jobs where the spotter is positioning around a dig face or walking the line. Wired is simpler and has slightly better noise rejection. BEC can scope the right configuration to the crew size and the typical job geometry.
What service and parts support does BEC offer for SetCom?
Standard headset configurations and replacement parts (boom mics, ear cushions, battery packs) stock at our service centers. Same-day shipping upon request from our Indianapolis distribution center on stocked items.
