Overview

Self-propelled hi-rail boom mower built for vegetation maintenance in railway corridors. Steel rail wheels drop for on-track work, four rubber wheels carry it down the road to the next site. A rotating ROPS/FOPS cabin lets the operator cut in either direction of travel without turning the machine around. Available with a 27 ft or 32 ft telescopic arm.

Key Features

Dual-mode hi-rail: 4 steel rail wheels for track, 4 rubber wheels for road

Rotating cabin up to 90° for productive cutting in both directions of travel

Deutz TCD 4.1 L04, 4-cylinder diesel, 155 HP, EPA Tier 4f

Hydrostatic 4x4 drivetrain, 0–19 mph on road, 0–7 mph on rails

Two telescopic arm options: 27 ft (8.5 m) or 32 ft (9.7 m) working reach

Four-wheel steering with three modes: 2-wheel, 4-wheel, and crab

FOPS-ROPS homologated cabin with second cabin for an assistant

Self-cleaning reversible cooling fan for dusty rail-corridor operation

Who This Is For

Railroads and contractors maintaining rail corridor vegetation who need a single chassis that works on track and on the highway between job sites. The dual-mode rail/road capability and rotating cabin double productivity vs. a fixed-direction machine.

Ideal Applications

Right-of-way mowing along active rail corridors

Brush and shrub control in dusty, dirty rail-bed environments

Multi-site rail maintenance programs requiring road transit between work zones

Two-direction cutting on routes where machine turnaround is impractical

What Sets It Apart

Most railroad-corridor mowing platforms commit to one mode. The R1500 carries the cutting head to the work on rubber wheels at highway speed, drops onto rails for the actual mowing pass, and the rotating cabin lets the operator work going either direction without turning the machine. The result is fewer setup transitions per shift and roughly double the productivity per hour vs. a fixed-direction railroad mower.

When to Consider a Different Model

Highway and right-of-way work that does not involve rail corridors. The ILF Alpha, Alphetta, or Athena cover non-rail jobs with less complexity and lower cost.

Frequently Asked Questions

Who is the R1500 best suited for?

Railroads and contractors maintaining rail corridor vegetation who need a single chassis that works on track and on the highway between job sites. The dual-mode rail/road capability and rotating cabin double productivity vs. a fixed-direction machine.

What are the main applications for the R1500?

The R1500 is ideal for: Right-of-way mowing along active rail corridors; Brush and shrub control in dusty, dirty rail-bed environments; Multi-site rail maintenance programs requiring road transit between work zones; Two-direction cutting on routes where machine turnaround is impractical.

What sets the R1500 apart from other boom mowers?

Most railroad-corridor mowing platforms commit to one mode. The R1500 carries the cutting head to the work on rubber wheels at highway speed, drops onto rails for the actual mowing pass, and the rotating cabin lets the operator work going either direction without turning the machine. The result is fewer setup transitions per shift and roughly double the productivity per hour vs. a fixed-direction railroad mower.

When should I consider a different model instead of the R1500?

Highway and right-of-way work that does not involve rail corridors. The ILF Alpha, Alphetta, or Athena cover non-rail jobs with less complexity and lower cost.
